Basket of Eyeballs

What do you do when you realize you have way too many plastic eyeballs?  74 plastic eyeballs to be exact? You make up lots and lots of eyeball crafts and learning activities!
I’m really not that into Halloween.  And I really don’t like creepy, spooky Halloween decorations.  I promise!  But all the eyeballs, spiders, scorpions, bats, and rats we’ve been seeing have really inspired us this year.  So, for the next few days we will be sharing all the different  ideas we come up with for this big o’ basket o’ eyeballs 👀👀👀👀👀!  Check back for updates to this post.
Update:   Check out these awesome skeleton tongs we found at Dollar Tree!  These are going to be so fun with all of our eyeball activities!

Eyeball Fine Motor Race
This is a really simple way to get your little goblins to work on their fine motor skills.   You can do the obvious activity of having them transfer the eyeballs from one container to the next using either tongs, like these clear ones we found at Dollar Tree, or chopsticks for more of a challenge.  To kick it up a notch, add the element of time.  See how many eyeballs they can transfer in X amount of seconds or minutes.  Even our 1 year old got into it!  She liked running her fingers through them all, throwing them and occasionally transferring them to another container.

Eyeball Number Recognition/Counting Race

After we practiced picking up the eyeballs, we added number flash cards, from the Target Dollar Spot, and turned this activity into a counting competition of little goblin against mom and/or dad.  To make it a little more fair, Mom and dad used the chopsticks while little goblin used tongs.

What You Need:

*Number flash cards
*eyeballs or other spooky items (bat rings, bugs, worms, etc)
*tongs for each young child
*chopsticks for each older child and adult
*container for each player

Lay a stack of number flash cards face down in a pile.  Flip over the top card to reveal a number.  With their tongs or their chopsticks, every person needs to remove that number of eyeballs from the basket and places them in their container.  Add a time limit to make it more challenging.

Eyeball Math Race

Next, we added addition flashcards, from the Target Dollar Spot, and had the same competition.  This time, when the card is turned over, each player has to calculate the answer and then remove that number of eyeballs from the basket and place them in their container.

What You Need:

Same supplies as Counting Race, but a set of addition (subtraction, multiplication, division) flashcards instead of number flashcards.
